Michael Cheung is a fourth year Accounting and Financial Management student at the University of Waterloo with multiple work experiences in Sales & Trading. Michael is currently a Commodities Trading Analyst at RBC Capital Markets. He was previously a Structured Finance Analyst at Deutsche Bank in New York with past work terms in BMO Capital Markets and TD. Michael had a wonderful time coordinating hEDGE for the fourth year and counting, and is super excited to return as Co-Head and Managing Director at the 2016 conference. Michael hopes that this conference will be able to inspire and teach others about the capital markets as much as it did to him. In his spare time, Michael enjoys camping, swimming and playing badminton.
Haoran Qiu is a fourth year Accounting and Financial Management student at the University of Waterloo. He is an incoming Investment Banking Analyst at CIBC, currently working as a Private Investment Valuations Analyst at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, with past internships at Timbercreek Asset Management and PwC. Haoran had a phenomenal experience engaging sponsors and building relationships within the finance community during hEDGE 2015 and is thrilled to return as Co-Head and Managing Director. With hEDGE 2016, Haoran aims to further connect and inspire undergraduates about a career in the capital markets, and equip them with the essential tools and skills to launch their career. In his free time, Haoran immerses himself in biographies, planning trips, and all things fitness.
Evelyn is a fourth year Mathematics/Chartered Professional Accountancy student and is thrilled to be returning to the hEDGE team this year. After completing her first two work terms in Ernst & Young’s assurance practice, her interest in finance has continued to grow, and she looks forward to her next co-op term as an analyst on the Direct Investing team at Teachers' Private Capital. Having gained more exposure to the capital markets through the 2015 conference and her role as a Senior Analyst on the SAF Student-Run Investment Fund, Evelyn hopes to leveraging those experiences to make hEDGE 2016 the most rewarding and memorable experience yet for all delegates and sponsors. In her spare time, Evelyn enjoys watching ballets, playing golf and tennis, as well as working her way towards completing her yoga teaching certification.
Ambrose is a fourth year student in the Accounting and Financial Management program. Following an incredible year as an Associate on the hEDGE 2015 team, Ambrose is excited to return as a Managing Director for hEDGE 2016. Ambrose has spent his co-op terms in both assurance and expatriate tax at Grant Thornton LLP. Ambrose will be starting at KPMG full-time in their National Audit practice in Fall 2016. Outside of school, Ambrose enjoys food, fashion, fitness, and frisbee.
Anthony is a third year Accounting and Financial Management student. He is currently working at PSP Investments as a Private Equity Analyst. His prior work term was at Deloitte as a Staff Accountant. After an amazing year as part of the hEDGE 2015 team, Anthony is excited to return as a managing director and looks forward to increasing the value hEDGE brings to sponsors and delegates. Outside of finance, his interests also include going to the gym and trying new recipes when cooking albeit with varying degrees of success.
Hasanain is a fourth year Accounting and Financial Management student at the University of Waterloo. He is currently in his school term and has previously worked at Ernst & Young LLP in their Financial Services Organizations Audit group. In school, Hasanain is currently a Research Assistant for a variety of projects and he was a portfolio manager in the School of Accounting and Finance Student-Run Investment Fund, covering the Industrials sector and leading the team with the other portfolio managers. Outside of school, Hasanain enjoys playing tennis, participating in case competitions, and working on web-development side projects. Hasanain is excited to be on the team and is ready to grow the organization to new heights.
David is a second year Computing Financial Student with interest both in computer science and finance. Throughout the past 4 years, David was involved in a variety of startups. From development companies to nonprofit organizations, David will put his skills of marketing, design and development to make this year's conference more engaging, fun and incredible than ever.
Jason is a fourth year student in the Accounting and Financial Management program. With co-op terms in KPMG's audit practice, and marketing consulting at Capital One, Jason is excited to expand his horizons in capital markets by joining the hEDGE team.
Having experiences in various business environments – from accounting, to finance, to marketing – he believes in the importance of gaining exposure to all facets of business. Jason hopes to leverage his different experiences to bring a fresh perspective to hEDGE for a fantastic 2016 conference.
Outside of school and work, Jason enjoys reading up on social entrepreneurship, singing, and low-budget travelling.
Hammad Shams is a third year Accounting & Finance student at the University of Waterloo and has spent his work terms as a Staff Accountant at Ernst & Young, auditing as part of the Financial Services Organizations. As a delegate part of hEDGE2015, Hammad is excited to join this year’s team to expand the conference! During school, Hammad has previously been part of organizing the University of Waterloo Accounting Conference (UWAC) and has been a Board of Ambassador Representative for CPA Ontario. Hoping to further expand his knowledge and experience into finance, Hammad looks forward to an amazing year with a dedicated team. Outside of work, Hammad enjoys visiting art galleries and local coffee establishments, and juggles the heavy burden of making time for his favourite TV shows.
Su is a second year Accounting and Financial Management student with a strong passion for Finance. She has developed an interest in Capital Markets after taking her finance courses as well as participating in events hosted by Women in Capital Markets. From her past experience organizing events as the President and Founder of an origami charity club and one of the project managers of AFSA tax clinic, Su is very excited to use her past experiences to contribute towards making hEDGE the most outstanding conference yet. In her spare time, Su enjoys swimming, making paper origami and watching movies.
Justin is a third year Accounting and Financial Management student, completing his 2nd co-op term at National Bank Financial as an Investment Banking Analyst. Looking forward, he hopes to leverage his past experiences and skills to create lasting memories for hEDGE 2016. In his free time, Justin is found catching up on TV shows and keeping fit.
Yiting is a third year Accounting and Financial Management student at the University of Waterloo. She has completed her previous co-op term as a Financial Analyst at RBC Capital Markets, and is also currently involved with organizing Young Investors Program Canada. As a new addition to the team, Yiting is excited to leverage her experiences to continue building the hEDGE brand and delivering the best conference experience yet. During her spare time, you can find Yiting brushing up on her dance skills or splurging on bubble tea.
Amy is a first year Computing and Financial Management student who is very excited to be joining the hEDGE team. In recent years, she has participated in entrepreneurial ventures at the University of Waterloo, as well as creating her own web development start up. She has a keen interest in financial analysis and investment banking and hopes to learn a lot from her time as an Associate.
Amy is determined to use her passion for design, marketing, and planning in order to make this year’s hEDGE conference a great experience for all involved. She is a local of the Waterloo region and enjoys spending her free time catching the latest movies and TV shows.
Rebecca is currently a first year student in the Accounting and Financial Management program. As a new member of the team, Rebecca is excited to bring her experience from selling her first start-up and her background of conference planning and business development with Science Expo to the table. She hopes to boost marketing efforts with her social media and video editing skills to promote the value and success of the hEDGE conferences. In her spare time, she is an adrenaline junkie that loves to travel and seek out new adventures whenever she can.
Cherrie is a third year student in the Mathematics/Chartered Professional Accountancy Program and she is very excited to be joining the hEDGE team this year. Cherrie completed her first work term as an Assurance Associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers, working with clients in asset management and technology. In school, Cherrie is also a Junior Analyst on the SAF Student-run Investment Fund covering financials and has served as an executive on UW DECA. Cherrie is passionate about using her experiences to make hEDGE 2016 the most memorable conference yet for both attendees and sponsors. In her spare time, Cherrie enjoys watching baseball, listening to podcasts, and reading food blogs.
Andy is a second year Accounting and Financial Management student at the University of Waterloo. He is an incoming Staff Accountant at Ernst & Young LLP in their Financial Services Organizations Audit group. With a passion for analytics and the capital markets, he is joining hEDGE hoping to expand his knowledge alongside the other talented individuals on the team. Andy is looking forward to take his prior experience organizing conferences to create the best hEDGE yet. In his spare time, Andy is a food enthusiast and enjoys trying different restaurants, cooking and frequenting farmers markets.
