About Capital Markets
The Capital Markets department is part of the Investments division and is a cross-asset-class, multi-strategy platform that maximizes total return, while serving as Ontario Teachers’ portal into global capital markets.
The Capital Markets’ in-house team, a staff of 70 investment professionals, is responsible for $69.6 billion of Ontario Teachers’ assets and manages the plan’s policy portfolio. It delivers centralized execution for all investment departments and optimizes funding decisions across the organization, while keeping liquidity and leverage constraints in mind. The department generates enhanced investment performance through liquid capital markets, creating value by combining discretionary and systematic risk-taking strategies across a wide range of asset classes both internally and externally by allocating capital to external managers, including hedge funds. By focusing on building a portfolio of diverse strategies, the team delivers returns that are uncorrelated to other asset classes, adding real diversification to the Plan’s return driven investing portfolio.
